Lingnan University welcomes new Council Chairman and Deputy Chairman

Lingnan University (LU) welcomes the Government’s announcement today (3 October 2014) of the appointment of Mr Rex Auyeung Pak-kuen to succeed The Hon Bernard Charnwut Chan as Chairman of the Council of LU from 22 October 2014.

The University also welcomes the Government appointment of Mr Simon Ip Shing-hing as Deputy Chairman of the Council from the same date.

Mr Chan, who will complete his six years of service as Chairman on 21 October, became a Lingnanian in 1999. He first joined the Lingnan community as a Council and Court member, then as Treasurer, Deputy Council Chairman and finally as Council Chairman since 2008. “During his chairmanship, Mr Chan has played a pivotal role in the development of Lingnan. We are most grateful to Mr Chan for his outstanding leadership in the past years. Clearly, we could not have asked for a more dedicated and effective Chairman,” President Leonard K Cheng said.

Mr Auyeung has been Deputy Chairman of the Council and a member of the Court since 2013. He is concurrently Chairman of the Staffing Committee under the Council, Convenor of the Review Panel on Lingnan University Ordinance and has participated in the recent search exercises for President and Vice-President.

A member of the Council since 2009, Mr Ip is concurrently Chairman of the Appeals Committee under the Council and Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Community College at Lingnan University and Lingnan Institute of Further Education.

“We are pleased to have Mr Auyeung and Mr Ip, who are well-versed in and committed to the affairs of the University, to lead Lingnan to new heights of excellence in the years to come,” said President Cheng.
