“Walking with Lingnanians” Fundraising Walkathon 2014

Today more than 1,000 students, alumni, teachers, staff and friends of Lingnan University participated in the fifth “Walking with Lingnanians” fundraising walkathon. This year, the walkathon started from Tai Po Waterfront Park and proceeded to Hong Kong Science Park along the promenade. Over HK$3.68 million was raised in support of the University’s whole-person development programmes, which surpassed the amount raised in every walkathon over the past years.

Officiating guests of the kick-off ceremony were The Hon Bernard Charnwut Chan, Chairman of the University Council and President Leonard K Cheng.

Mr Bernard Chan was delighted to participate in the last Fundraising Walkathon before he steps down as Lingnan’s Council Chairman. He looked forward to participating in this meaningful event as a Lingnanian in the future. He said, “We have achieved a major breakthrough this year with the highest amount of donation over the past years.” He also thanked all the supporting organisations for not only providing financial support to the University, but also participating in the fundraising walkathon to experience the dynamism and high spirits of its students.

President Leonard K Cheng said that this large-scale outdoor fundraising activity did not only raise fund for the University’s development, but also provided a precious opportunity for the public to know more about its liberal arts education.
