Lingnan University organised the Chinese New Year Media Reception 2015 today (27 February 2015), during which President Leonard K Cheng and other representatives of the University met with and greeted friends from the media at the beginning of the Year of the Goat.

In his address, President Cheng pointed out that Lingnan University needs to further strengthen its position to meet the challenges ahead in view of new developments in higher education both locally and internationally. In mid-2014, after critically reviewing the University’s vision and mission statements which were developed in 2009, a comprehensive process of reformulating and refining these statements was started.

"Our new vision and mission statements provide us with a clear direction for future development. Our new vision statement has been extended to highlight community engagement, something we have been doing all along without explicit affirmation. The new mission statement spells out clearly the University’s goals of providing quality whole-person education informed by the best of Chinese and Western liberal arts traditions and encouraging faculty and students to contribute to society through original research and knowledge transfer”, said President Cheng.

While Lingnan is Hong Kong’s liberal arts university, our vision is not limited to Hong Kong. President Cheng pointed out that in 2012 Lingnan University had become a member of the Global Liberal Arts Alliance, currently with 27 member institutions from 15 countries, with the aim of raising the standard and global dimension of liberal arts education through exchange and collaborations between member institutions. He announced that Lingnan University will be hosting the Alliance’s annual meeting from 23 to 25 March this year.
