A launching ceremony was held today (21 May) on the University’s campus.

Enterprises participating in the internship programme are leaders in the fields of marketing and multimedia, allowing students to experience working in the fastest-growing sectors of Mainland China. Prominent enterprises and multinational corporations joining the programme include Oriental DreamWorks, a Sino-US joint venture film company; East Money Information Co Ltd, a listed company and operator of one of the most popular financial portals in the Mainland; Shanghai Media Group Limited, one of the Mainland’s largest TV broadcasters; and Always (Shanghai) Marketing Services Co Ltd, member of a renowned global advertising group.

This year, the internship programme has attracted the participation of more top enterprises including Shanghai Nimble-Mind Marketing Consultant Co Ltd, Winfopay Network Technology Co Ltd and Unique Shanghai.

The “Shanghai-Hongkong-People” programme will also be introduced in this year’s internship. Members of the Hongkong-Shanghai Economic Development Association will be designated as group mentors, and meet with Lingnan students participating in the programme regularly in Hong Kong and Shanghai to understand their internship progress, share personal experience and assist students in resolving problems encountered during the internship.

Mr Andrew Yao Cho-fai, Hong Kong Deputy to the National People’s Congress and President of the Hongkong-Shanghai Economic Development Association, pointed out in his address that “students who participated in last year’s internship programme gave a very good impression to their employers. I hope students of this year’s programme can demonstrate their strengths and showcase their best to employers and friends in Shanghai, helping to build a positive brand image for Lingnan.” He said this year’s programme has deliberately included some e-commerce companies, and students who intend to start their own business in future are expected to benefit from it substantially.

Prof Leonard K Cheng, President of Lingnan University thanked the Hongkong-Shanghai Economic Development Association and the support of related organisations including the Home Affairs Bureau and Commission on Youth in tailoring this internship programme for Lingnan students, which provided them with an opportunity to explore the creative art and cultural industries covering multimedia, film and television broadcasting, and marketing and sales. “I hope students participating in the internship can grasp this opportunity to learn as much as they can on both the personal and professional levels, accumulate invaluable experience and get prepared for future challenges,” said President Cheng.

Other officiating guests of the ceremony included Mr Li Jiyi, Deputy Director General, Department of Youth Affairs, Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, Mr Alan Lam Man-ming, Chief Executive Officer, Home Affairs Bureau, Mr Simon Ip Shing-hing, Deputy Chairman of the Council, Lingnan University and Mrs Loretta Shuen Leung Lai-sheung, Treasurer of the Council, Lingnan University.
