Lingnan University to confer honorary fellowships upon three distinguished individuals

Lingnan University will confer honorary fellowships upon three distinguished individuals in recognition of their outstanding achievements in their respective professions and valuable contributions to the well-being of society.

The honorary fellowship recipients are Mr Raman Hui Shing-ngai, BBS, Mr Woo Kai-sau (Woo Fung) and Mr Thomas Jefferson Wu.

A ceremony will be held at Chan Tak Tai Auditorium, Lingnan University on 8 October 2015 (Thursday) to confer the honorary fellowships.

Biographies of the honorary fellowship recipients:

Mr Raman Hui Shing-ngai, BBS

Mr Raman Hui Shing-ngai is a Hong Kong animator and film director whose work is known to audiences all around the world.  Mr Hui worked on a number of well-known, award-winning animation films, including Shrek (2001) for which he designed the characters and supervised the animation.  Shrek won at least 37 awards, including one Academy Award – or Oscar – for Best Animated Feature, and two awards from the British Academy of Film and Television (BAFTA).  In 2008, the American Film Institute ranked Shrek number eight among the ten greatest animation movies ever made.  He received with Shrek The Third co-director Chris Miller the ShoWest Animation Director of the Year award in Las Vegas in 2007.  Mr Hui was conferred the World’s Outstanding Chinese Designer Award by the Hong Kong Design Centre and was awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star by the Hong Kong SAR Government in 2008 and 2009 respectively.

Mr Woo Kai-sau (Woo Fung)

Woo Fung, whose birth name was Woo Kai-sau and is also known as Sau Gor or Brother Sau, is a popular veteran actor of Hong Kong’s film and TV industry.  Since he entered the film industry in 1953, Mr Woo has served as a director, screenwriter and actor.  He started working in TV in the 1970s, and was honoured with the Gold Bauhinia Award and TVB Anniversary Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2003.  It has been more than six decades since Mr Woo became an actor, and he has appeared in over 260 films and TV programmes.  But he is still full of energy, and whenever he is given a new piece of work he does all he can to find the best way to interpret and portray his role. He also analyses his strengths and weaknesses after each performance to seek for improvements.

Mr Thomas Jefferson Wu

Mr Thomas Jefferson Wu is currently the Managing Director of Hopewell Holdings Limited and Hopewell Highway Infrastructure Limited.  Mr Wu is certainly an achiever, a community leader, and a global leader in his own right.  In public service, he serves as a committee member of Heilongjiang Provincial Committee of the 11th Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, a Standing Committee member and a member of the Huadu District Committee of The Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.  He is a member of Hong Kong Tourism Board, the Standing Committee on Disciplined Services Salaries and Conditions of Service of the HKSAR Government, a board member of the Asian Youth Orchestra Limited and a member of the Business School Advisory Council of the HKUST.  As a business leader, he understands delegation and trust and strongly believes in strong corporate governance.  Mr Wu is devoted to promoting ice hockey, and is currently Vice President (Asia & Oceania) of the International Ice Hockey Federation, Co-founder and Chairman of the Hong Kong Amateur Hockey Club Limited and the Founder and Chairman of the Hong Kong Academy of Ice Hockey Ltd.
