Lingnan University promotes the development of smart city

Lingnan University promotes the development of smart city by joining the “Innovative Progress in PKI and Authentication International Symposium” on 7 July as a co-organiser.
 
The Symposium, with the theme “Smart City & Smart Identity under Belt & Road Initiative”, aimed to promote transformation and upgrade of industries in order to foster industrial development in Hong Kong pertaining to the construction of a Smart City.  It was jointly organised by the Asia PKI Consortium (APKIC), The Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong (CMA) and Smart City Consortium.  Experts from India, Korea, Japan, Thailand, Mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong attended the Symposium and shared their insights and experience at the occasion.
 
Distinguished guests including Mr Nicholas W Yang, Secretary for Innovation and Technology of the HKSAR Government and Dr Xie Weiming, Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR was invited to officiate the Symposium’s kick-off ceremony.  In his welcome speech, Vice-President Prof Joshua Mok Ka-ho emphasised that it is with paramount importance for Hong Kong to enhance its global competitive position and presence by developing itself as a “SmartCity” to revitalise it’s economic leadership and the role of “Super-Connector” between Mainland China and the rest of the world.  He hope Lingnan University will play the key role as a professional knowledge provider and trainer to bring necessary and fundamental knowledge to our younger generation, entrepreneurs, SMEs and the society as a whole.
 
A series of keynote speeches and talks were presented after the kick-off ceremony.  Prof Alfred Loo Wai-sing, Associate Director of Lingnan University’s Hong Kong Institute of Business Studies also gave a talk on the topic “Challenges and Opportunities of Digital Certificates Applications” and shared his insights through case studies.  Dr Ir Rosiah Ho, Associate Director of Lingnan University’s Information Technology Services Centre also rendered support to the symposium as one of the event coordinators
