Conference of Chinese Historical Phonology and Chinese Language Teaching Pedagogy

Conference of Chinese Historical Phonology and Chinese Language Teaching Pedagogy, co-organized by Lingnan University’s Chinese Language Education and Assessment Centre (CLEAC) the and Research Society on Chinese Historical Phonology was held on 28 April at the campus of Lingnan. More than 30 scholars from Hong Kong, Macau and the Mainland China presented their research findings and participated in discussions at the Conference.

 

Prof Joshua Mok Ka-ho, Vice-President and Dr Li Donghui, Associate Vice-President (Student Affairs) and Head of CLEAC of Lingnan University, as well as Prof Qiao Quansheng, President of the Research Society on Chinese Historical Phonology and Dean of the Chinese Language Institute of Shanxi University officiated the Opening Ceremony.  Prof Mok pointed out the close relationship between Chinese historical phonology and Chinese language teaching, and the two research fields can complement each other.

 

President Leonard K Cheng greeted all scholars with a luncheon banquet. He highly praised the Conference scholars' research efforts on historical Chinese linguistics and language pedagogy. In the time of the 50th Anniversary of Lingnan University’s  re-establishment in Hong Kong, he encouraged all scholars to continue collaborating in Chinese language research and pedagogical practice. He looks forward to language research being upgraded to a new level for raising and enhancing student's language communication competency.
