Chinese New Year carnival celebrates Lingnan’s cultural diversity

The annual Chinese New Year carnival “Spring Festival 2018” co-organised by the University’s Student Services Centre and Office of Global Education was held on 5 February.  The carnival was a joyful occasion to celebrate the Chinese New Year and for non-local staff and students to experience the traditional Chinese culture, as well as an opportunity to showcase their own culture through talent performances and activity booths.  Contributions from both local and non-local staff and students made Lingnan a harmonious international community.

The kick-off ceremony was officiated by Prof Joshua Mok Ka-ho, Vice-President, Dr Fok Wing-huen, member of the Council and Court, Dr Frank Law Sai-kit, former Chairman of the Court and other senior management members of the University.

Lingnan staff and students from different countries staged a fantastic show after the kick-off ceremony with Chinese lion dance, Mexican dance, singing, green fashion show, accordion, saxophone and ukulele performances.  A total of 16 booths were set up by local and non-local students at Wing On Plaza, serving Chinese New Year delicacies and food from different countries, as well as a variety of games.  All participants enjoyed a warm festive celebration.
