Lingnan University welcomes new students by hosting a series of activities during July and August 2014.

On 26-27 July, 177 Year 2 and 3 students participated in a 2-day Peer Mentorship Training Programme in which they learned to be mentors of freshmen. Through team-building games and group discussions, senior students were equipped with the skills to help freshmen adapt to the new environment.

The New Student Orientation took place on 22-24 August, providing freshmen with information on academic and campus life as well as guidance on how to make the most out of their university education. They also had the opportunity to taste the vibrant living and learning environment through watching the performances and visiting the booths of different interest clubs at the Campus Life Carnival.

In the welcoming speech delivered by President Prof Leonard K Cheng at the Official Welcome, he invited new students to think about why they are in university and how they can find their dreams. He urged new students to regard the university as a place for personal discovery and transformation, for exploring and defining their dreams. President Cheng advised new students to follow their passion and make use of the four-year studies to test out their innovative ideas.

Apart from the New Student Orientation for local students, a welcoming lunch and a special one-and-a-half day orientation were organised on 20-21 August for 43 new non-local degree seeking students from overseas and Mainland China, among whom are nine scholarship recipients.

The University has also prepared a First Year Experience Programme to help new students adjust to university life.
