Lingnan University invites applications for admission to MPhil and PhD programmes 2015-16

Lingnan University now invites applications for admission to its Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes for the 2015-16 academic year.

Students admitted to Lingnan University’s MPhil and PhD programmes will conduct in-depth study in specific research areas. At research postgraduate level, Lingnan offers MPhil and PhD programmes in Chinese, Cultural Studies, English, History, Philosophy, Translation, Visual Studies, Business (including Accounting, Decision Sciences, Finance, Information Systems Management, Insurance, International Business, Management, Marketing, and Operations Management), Economics, Psychology and Social Sciences (including Political Science and International Relations, Sociology, Social Gerontology, and Social Policy). The programmes will commence in September 2015.

Applicants should hold a relevant bachelor’s degree with first or second class honours, or an equivalent qualification recognised by the University, and fulfil language requirements. Some programmes have specified additional requirements.

Applicants may seek admission to its PhD programmes in two ways as follows:
  • Outstanding and brilliant applicants may apply for admission via the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) established by the Research Grants Council (RGC).1 Applicants should login the Admission System of the RGC at www.rgc.edu.hk/hkphd to get a reference number by 1 December 2014 (Hong Kong time 12:00 noon) and submit a full application directly to Lingnan’s Online Application System at www.LN.edu.hk/admissions/applyonline on or before 2 December 2014. Applicants who apply for and do not get the Fellowship can still be considered for the regular PhD places at the University. 
  • Apply to the University directly from 3 November 2014 to 30 January 2015 through its Online Application System.2
The University also offers research-based two-year MPhil programmes. Applicants may apply for admission to its MPhil programmes directly from 3 November 2014 to 30 January 2015.3

Remarks
 
1 Successful Fellowship awardees will be provided with HK$240,000/year (HK$20,000/month) and a conference/esearch-related travel allowance of up to HK$10,000/year for a maximum of three years.

2 Normally, full-time students will be awarded Postgraduate Studentships of HK$14,500/month (to be raised to HK$14,800/month after confirmation of candidature, and the rate is subject to review).

3 Full-time MPhil students will also be awarded Postgraduate Studentships with a monthly stipend of HK$14,300 (rate subject to review).
