Lingnan University receives generous donation of HK$8 million from the Ho Iu Kwong Charity Foundation to establish the China Economic Research Programme

Lingnan University organised the Inauguration Ceremony of the China Economic Research Programme cum Cheque Presentation Ceremony today (23 April) in appreciation of the generous donation of HK$8 million from the Ho Iu Kwong Charity Foundation to establish the China Economic Research Programme for fostering economic development of Mainland China and Hong Kong.
 
In his welcoming remarks, Mr Rex Auyeung Pak-kuen, Council Chairman of Lingnan University expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Ho Iu Kwong Charity Foundation for its generous support to Lingnan for establishing the China Economic Research Programme, which enables the University to scale new heights through encouraging scholars and researchers in Hong Kong and Mainland China in making contributions to the studies of China’s economy. “I believe that our research team will make significant contributions to the China Economic Research Programme which will help enhance the economic development of Mainland China and Hong Kong SAR in the near future,” said Mr Auyeung.
 

 

The China Economic Research Programme at Lingnan University aims to promote studies by Mainland and Hong Kong scholars, researchers and industry members in areas such as economy, industries, finance and entrepreneurship, as well as collaborative academic research and exchange projects. The Programme will organise academic conferences in response to changes in related policies and developments of the economies of Mainland China and Hong Kong, so as to foster the economic development of the two places. Lingnan University has appointed Prof Wei Xiangdong, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences as Director of the Programme, while Mr Ho Sai-leung, Director of the Foundation was appointed Honorary Director to provide guidance for the Programme.
 

“We make a donation to Lingnan University to establish the China Economic Research Programme because we identify with the goals of promoting extensive and in-depth exchange and cooperation among experts, scholars and industry members in areas such as economy, industries, finance and entrepreneurship,” said Mr Ho Sai-chu, Chairman of the Ho Iu Kwong Charity Foundation in his address at the Ceremony. He hoped the newly established Programme would conduct timely exchanges and research according to changes in the situation of economic development of Hong Kong and Mainland China, and find the way forward for contributing to their economic development, especially the new direction of development of Hong Kong’s economy.
  
In his remarks, Prof Leonard K Cheng, President of Lingnan University, said that “the generous donation of HK$8 million from the Foundation not only provides a strong thrust for Hong Kong’s tertiary institutions to promote economic research but also helps nurture top talents who are concerned about the economic development of the Mainland and Hong Kong.” He firmly believes that the Programme can foster innovative collaborations of the scholars and researchers of the Mainland and Hong Kong for the further economic development of the region.
