Science seminar on Fukushima nuclear disaster and its impact
- Event Highlights
Issue No. 73 Nov 2017
The science seminar “The Days after the Fukushima Nuclear Disaster - Its Impact on Society and the Current Status”, organised by the Core Curriculum and General Education Office and Science Unit, was held on 2 November. It attracted around 80 participants including Lingnan students and staff.
Prof Lau Kin-chi, Associate Professor of the Department of Cultural Studies, shared her personal experience and observations during her visit in 2012 and a trip for students in 2016 to Fukushima about its recovery and living environment after the outbreak of the disaster. Participants were well engaged in the thought-provoking seminar and led to reflect on the necessity of using nuclear power, as well as the energy consumption and pollution problem in Hong Kong.
